STAFF TRAINING SESSIONS
As a part of Unfold the Untold 8 Health Care Assistants and the Infirmary’s two Admiral Nurses under took Healing Arts pilot training.
The training, which ran weekly for 4 weeks then fortnightly for another 4 weeks, introduced the staff to the benefits of arts in an acute hospital setting through practical work and discussion. The aim of the training was to give the staff confidence to do some creative activities with their patients between Healing Arts sessions and thus help keep continuity for the patients and ward .
We found that the sessions also supported the staff’s own well-being enabling them to return to their respective wards with a clear head and feeling calm.
Additionally, we used the time with the staff to help us better understand the ‘day in the life’ of a HCA and Admiral Nurse in order to see where our work shared similar approaches and values, and where we complemented each other.
This was an extremely useful part of the training for all involved and is guiding our development of a Healing Arts course for other NCIC staff.
Healing Arts artist, Alex, led the sessions and we have a few videos of activities should you wish to have a go.
